Summer Plein Air Competition | Water & Reflection Theme

Celebrate creativity in the heart of Leamington Spa with our Summer Plein Air Competition – Water & Reflection, taking place at Stoneleigh Arms Arts Space on Saturday 25 July from 11am–4pm.

Artists of all abilities are invited to paint outdoors and capture the beauty of water in all its forms — rivers, canals, fountains, puddles, and the shimmering light that dances across wet surfaces. Whether you are an experienced plein air painter or trying it for the first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to create, connect, and compete in a lively and inspiring summer setting.

Entry is just £10 per person, with gift vouchers and certificates to be won for:

Bring your own materials, enjoy a day of outdoor painting, and showcase your talent in this exciting seasonal competition. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended!

Schedule

  • 11:00am — Registration & welcome. Head out and find your spot!
  • 11:00am – 3:00pm — Open painting session. Work outdoors in your chosen medium.
  • 3:00pm — Deadline submission. All works to be handed in at the venue.
  • 3:00pm – 4:00pm — Showcase & judging while you enjoy a cuppa. Works displayed and winners announced.
  • 4:00pm — Close.

What to Bring

You're welcome to work in any medium. Here are some ideas by discipline:

Drawing

  • Sketchbook or drawing paper
  • Pencils, charcoal, ink pens or pastels
  • Portable drawing board or clipboard

Painting

  • Watercolour, acrylic or oil paints
  • Brushes, palette and water pot
  • Canvas, board or watercolour paper
  • Easel or lap board

Printmaking

  • Sketchbook for observational drawings to develop later
  • Lino or drypoint tools if working on-site
  • Portable inking slab and roller

Sculpture

  • Sketchbook for maquette sketches
  • Air-dry clay or wire for quick studies
  • Small tools and a portable work surface

Photography

  • Camera, phone or digital device
  • Memory card and spare battery
  • Portable printer or access to a print service — digital entries must be printed out and submitted as a physical print on the day

Mixed Media

  • Collage materials, tissue paper, or found textures
  • Glue, scissors and a portable work surface
  • Any combination of drawing, painting, print or photographic elements is welcome

All finished works must be created on the day and on location. Please dress for the weather and bring refreshments — there will also be drinks available at the venue.
