Learn to Lino - Beginners Linocut Printmaking | Tuesday 15th September

This half-day course is the perfect introduction to linocut relief printing on paper, suitable for complete beginners or those with some previous experience looking to refresh existing skills. Cutting and printing from your own hand-carved blocks, you’ll get a solid overview of this accessible and enthralling technique that can be done at home with no need for a printing press. Attending this workshop will provide the perfect foundation to attend deeper-dive printmaking workshops to be held at Stoneleigh Arms later in the year

Taught by Cecilia Mackay, a member of Leicester Print Workshop, who combines award-winning printmaking skills with over 30 years working in book illustration, this small group workshop will show you:

·       How to plan your design and transfer it to the lino

·       How to cut, ink up and hand-print your blocks

·       Combining and layering colours for maximum impact

·       How to line up your layers using registration

·       Get a taste of reduction linocut, and the ‘jigsaw’ printing method

All tools and materials will be provided, and at the end of the session you will take home a small edition of beautiful prints, to gift or hang on your wall.

Please bring an apron, clothes you don’t mind getting a bit inky, and a shoebox to carry your prints home in (Cecilia will show you how to pack them so they don't get smudged).  Please note, because we are working with sharp tools, this course is not suitable for under-16s.
