Paint with Freedom: Intermediate Loose Floral Watercolour Course

Are you ready to move past rigid lines and inject life, movement, and vibrant energy into your watercolour painting?

Join us for a gorgeous 4-week intermediate watercolour series starting August 22nd, 2026. Over four consecutive Saturday sessions, you’ll discover how to let go of perfectionism and embrace a loose, expressive style while painting beautiful floral subjects.

Each immersive 3-hour workshop is designed by Magdelana to build your confidence, refine your technique, and help you find your unique artistic voice.

🌸 The Weekly Lineup

  • August 22nd – Sunflowers: Learn exciting, dynamic techniques to capture texture, bold energy, and movement.

  • August 29th – Hydrangeas: Master the delicate balance of soft blends, negative painting, and precise lifting techniques.

  • September 5th – Echinacea: Dive into expressive brushwork, creating depth using wet-in-wet and dry brush methods.

  • September 12th – Roses: Refine your layering, advanced colour mixing, and loose floral composition.

🎨 Techniques You’ll Master

We will dive deep into intermediate skills that will elevate your art, including:

  • Negative painting & lifting techniques

  • Advanced colour mixing methods

  • Wet-in-wet vs. dry brush methods

  • Creating movement for that coveted "loose" style

  • Working with masking fluid and exploring the fascinating properties of masking powder!

📝 Take Home the Knowledge: For every single lesson, you will receive a professionally printed technique sheet to keep in your studio for future reference and practice.

🖌️ Materials & Brushes

Magdelana will bring brushes and essential materials to the lessons, so there is no need to purchase anything specially unless you would like to work with your own preferred tools.

If you would like to bring your own brushes, I usually work with:

  • A size 10 round brush
  • A size 4 round brush
  • A small rigger brush or similar liner brush
  • An eradicator brush
  • Several types of mop brushes

Want to paint on the go? Compact sketching palettes are available to purchase for a small additional charge during the course.

🎟️ Investment & Booking

Spaces are strictly limited to ensure everyone receives plenty of one-on-one guidance, tailored feedback, and close-up demonstrations. You will need to have some watercolour experience or have done one of Magdelana's classes previously to join.

Your Host

My name is Magdalena Edwards and I’m a painter. My watercolour animal studies are full of directional flow. They mainly express multidimensional movement of animals. I love experimenting with colour and texture as it is unpredictable and challenging.

I live in Rugby but I grew up in the unspoiled lake district of Mazury in Poland. From a very early age, I started drawing cartoons and Japanese manga which has significantly influenced my style.

Now, I am mainly painting versatile, colourful and dynamic British wildlife. If you look closely enough, just like us humans, all my animals have their own characters and different stories to tell.

Since my involvement with the Healing Arts Programme in Walsgrave and St Cross hospitals I truly believe that painting and looking at beautiful colours creating interesting textured subjects has a very beneficial influence upon our emotional wellbeing.

I have also been exhibiting with: @warwickshireopenstudios and @aitpleamington

I hope you enjoy the my art as much as I do
